A Kid's Guide To Genesis

DAY 7 OF 7

Why Does God Let Bad Things Happen?

Bad things happen around the world all the time. It’s sad to see people dying, getting hurt or sick, and going through hard times. It’s natural to think, “Why, God?”

It’s important to know that God doesn’t cause bad things to happen to people who love Him. God created the world to be a perfect place. Unfortunately the first people, Adam and Eve, disobeyed God (Genesis 3), and that brought sin and evil into the world (Bible scholars call this “original sin”). Sin changed God’s perfect creation; sickness began, as well as natural disasters and death. God protects us from a lot of things, but He also allows His creation to feel the consequences of sin.

Believe it or not, God can use bad situations for good (Romans 8:28). We might not always see the good, but God does use tough times in His plan for us and the world.

Two thousand years ago, God sent His Son Jesus to earth to sacrifice His life to pay for our sin. People who believe in Jesus will one day be with God forever in heaven, where there will be no more sickness, pain or death (John 3:16; Revelation 21:4).
