Lesson 1: Progressive Revelation of True Knowledge of God

     

I. Through His Creation (Ps. 19:1; Rom. 1:20-23) 

The visible creation reveals the invisible attributes of God. But man has stubbornly rejected the knowledge of God in spite of what he sees in the created world. 

     

II. Through His inspired written Word (2Tim. 3:16,17; 2Peter 1:20,21) 

God raised up the nation, Israel, to reveal His glory to the unbelieving nations. “And I will set My glory among the nations; . . . and the house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God from that day onward.”(Ez. 39:21,22) Unfortunately, Israel failed to magnify God in the world, because of her disobedience. Nevertheless, the Jewish people were entrusted with recording and preserving God’s inspired Words in what we now call the Bible or Scriptures. The many writers of the Bible did not write out of their own thoughts, but they were inspired by the Holy Spirit as they wrote what God wanted them to write. 

III. Through the Living Word, Jesus Christ (John 1:1-4, 14, 18; 5:39; Heb. 1:2,3) 

Jesus was the ultimate manifestation of God in the world. Even though man in his sinful state cannot see God and live, Jesus made this possible. Under the covering of human flesh, the Holy God revealed His glory to sinful man through the person of Jesus Christ.
