Building Your Prayer Life

DAY 24 OF 36

Lesson Five: Building Process 2 - Practicing the Life of Praise

The life of praise is not confined only to singing of praise songs or sharing of testimonies during fellowship meetings or worship services. A life of praise is an expression of the Spirit-filled life according to Ephesians 5:19,20. Paul describes it as “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Praise and worship are often used synonymously, but somebody has differentiated the two. Praise is defined as man’s response to what God does. Worship is man’s response to who God is. Both are man’s response to God’s revelation of Himself – His works and attributes.

Praise and worship are actually the forms of prayer that will never cease. God’s people will be engaged in it for all eternity. And the Bible teaches that it is the main preoccupation of God’s creation in both heaven and earth. A believer who does not practice the `praise life’ is like a missing note in the universal chorus of praise to God. Most people do not realize that the entire universe is constantly offering praise to the Creator.

The life of praise is both a privilege and a responsibility. It is a privilege to behold and serve the glorious Creator of the universe through our worship. At the same time, it is a responsibility because we have been commanded to render praise to the Almighty God.

Prayer Principle 5: Unceasing praise is the fitting response of all creation to the character and works of God the Creator.

It is amazing to realize that when we praise God, we are participating in a universal choir that is worshipping God all the time. The life of praise is really a natural expression of intimate knowledge of God. As an artist appreciates art, a person who has learned to spot the intricacies of God’s beauty cannot hold back his awe and wonder of what he/she sees or appreciates.

Memory Verse 5A: Psalm 113:3

“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised.”

Memory Verse 5B:  Psalm 150:2,6

“Praise Him for His mighty deeds; praise Him according to His excellent greatness. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”
