Building Your Prayer Life

DAY 18 OF 36

Lesson Three: Prayer Strategy – Establishing a Prayer Partnership

A prayer partnership is a prayer strategy that stands on one of the promises of Jesus Himself in Matthew 18:19,20. It unleashes the greatest power on earth – the power of the Father through Jesus. And this power is released on the basis of the agreement of two faithful believers in Jesus concerning God’s kingdom.

Characteristics of a dynamic prayer partnership

A. Matthew 18:19,20 - powerful

Agreeing with a partner in prayer invites Jesus’ presence in your midst suggesting that He will demonstrate His power and authority through your prayers.

B. Galatians 6:2 – comforting

A prayer partner is someone who can help bear your burden – a source of comfort.

C. Hebrews 10:22,23,25 – encouraging

A prayer partner is also someone who can encourage you to persevere in doing God’s will. In choosing a good prayer partner, consider the following qualities:

Qualities of a good prayer partner: ACTS

Availability: able to meet with you regularly at an appointed time; willing to spare even a few minutes to pray with you whenever needed.

Commitment: willing to hurdle any possible hindrances to the partnership; committed to be God’s instrument to build you up to be the person God wants him to be.

Trustworthiness: (Proverbs 11:13) someone who can keep a secret or knows how to keep confidential sensitive matters shared in the partnership.

Spirit-led: (Romans 8: 26, 27; Eph. 6:18) – a good prayer partner seeks the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit.

Finding a prayer partner

  1. Ask God for a prayer partner who is: Available, Committed, Trustworthy, Spirit-led (ACTS)
  2. Keep your eyes open to find someone who has a heart for prayer.
  3. Seek a mutual commitment to have a regular time for praying together at least once a week.
