Values of an Entrepreneur

DAY 4 OF 4

Fitness

Work hard, play hard. Mens sana in corpore sano. Just about any cliche works here, and they all function in an effective faith-driven organization.

But why? What makes fitness such a high priority?

For starters, fitness provides an incredible opportunity for camaraderie. Whether running and biking together or playing a game of ultimate frisbee during lunch, exercise offers a chance to rest from work and exchange ideas. There’s a reason Googleplex has a beach volleyball court and Facebook HQ has basketball. Fitness is a great way to build a community and a culture.

Another reason is that improved fitness leads to improved productivity. A Harvard study showed that regular exercise can enhance creativity, quicken learning, sharpen memory, and improve concentration.

But even with all of that, the main reason to encourage fitness in your company is that our bodies are a part of who we are, and God loves who we are. There’s a reason God made humans with arms and legs and torsos and all the muscles and sinews that hold those things together. We are His creation. And it’s our responsibility to honor what God has made.

When we take care of ourselves, we show the One who made us that we care about who He is what He has created.

Further Thought

  • What role does fitness play in your personal life? What role does it play in your company?
  • What are some creative ways you can encourage positive physical habits for both yourself and your employees?
  • What’s one form of exercise (feel free to be creative) you can start this week?
