20/20 Vision: Eyes On Jesus Sample
Vision Interrupted
Imagine going about your day, when out of the blue, your vision is interrupted. You could see, until suddenly you could not see. In the book of Acts, we get a glimpse into the life of Saul of Tarsus, and discover how his unexpected encounter with God drastically changed his life for the better.
Saul was not the kind of guy you would want to take home to meet your Mother. He went about callously “breathing out murderous threats” against Christ’s disciples in Acts 1:1, and desired to cold-heartedly imprison them. Until one day, while on his way to Damascus, his life was radically transformed.
A bright light, like a heavenly spotlight, surrounded him and brought him to the ground. He heard, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” (v. 4) Saul asked who it was and soon heard, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” (v.5) Acts 9:8 says, “Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus.” After three days of blindness, and through the obedience of Ananias, God healed Saul when in Acts 9:18 “something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again.”
Has God ever interrupted your vision? Has He ever allowed circumstances or events to take place with the intended purpose of drawing your eyes off of worthless things to restore your focus on Him? What if in the year two thousand twenty, we remember that no matter what last year looked like, there is always hope in Christ for a fresh start and a bright tomorrow; especially when we keep our eyes on Jesus. He interrupts our vision so that we are able to see with new eyes.
A Prayer:
Dear Lord, Thank you for your great love and mercy that while we were sinners like Saul, you died for us and made a way for us to be reconciled with you. Thank you that we can be brought out of sin and darkness and into your marvelous and majestic light. Lord, shine your light on our hearts, search out the deepest and darkest corners, and remove anything that you didn’t place there. Please give us eyes to see clearly so that we may walk in the beauty of your light and love. Please interrupt us when we get distracted and off course. As we enter this new calendar year, fix our eyes on you, Jesus. In your matchless name, Amen.
