Soar: 10 Days of Rising AboveSample
White Flag
Before we can hope to "rise on the wings as eagles", we must put ourselves through the discipline of surrender.
Surrender is an act that looks weak, sometimes pathetic, but the greatest act of strength is to choose to be weak. Surrender is the most graceful and disciplined act that a believer can do. Much like the discipline of ballet. The ballerina must work and train to make her craft look as effortless and graceful as possible, while hiding her incredible strength and endurance.
The white flag is well known as a sign of surrender, a signal that a soldier or army had given up and were ready for someone else to take control of the situation. To raise a white flag is to adopt a position of weakness or even child-like vulnerability. But since we know that God’s Kingdom has opposite principles to the world’s, an act of surrender is not as pathetic as the world might have us believe.
We all possess within us a white flag which we can wave at any time, but it is with confidence that we can stand and raise a banner of surrender. It is a simple transaction. We stand still, and the Lord will fight for us.
It is in this holy exchange of control, where we give ourselves to him, that the truth of the concept of child-like faith is learned. Sometimes we think far too highly of our abilities. But the sooner we learn that the most effective way for us to partner with God for the kingdom is to let go, give it up in surrender like a child, the better!
We just we weren’t made to do it alone! To win this war we need to fall to our knees, understanding that “to live is Messiah, and to die is gain. As we let go of trust in our own strength, and place that trust in his strength, we can gain everything in him.
I have had to learn this lesson even through the musical production during this project. I was sick for the vocal recording portion of every single EP. In fact, it became such a trend that by the 3rd EP my production team knew in advance I’d be battling against a hoarse voice! They were right, and I was unable to rely on ability or talent on those days. It was surrender each day to stand at the mic and open my mouth to sing.
Today is all about choosing to be still. It’s about surrendering and intentionally stepping down from the fight. You can’t do it all – you’re not supposed to. God can. Choose to hand over the fight to him, and to watch him fight for you. You need only be still.
This is the position from which we can begin to Soar.
