In All CircumstancesSample
He must become greater; and I must become less.
As we grow in our Christian walk with God, we come to a place where we realize there can only be one master. We must decide who will be master in our life: God or us. Just like you cannot have two cooks in the kitchen, you cannot have two masters in your life. If you decide you want God to be the ruler/master over your life, then you must become less.
That is so easy to say or to sing about in church, but to put it into practice is very difficult to do. But we must. What does that look like in everyday terms? God’s will, must trump your will. You still have a will, but you must decide that you want God’s way more than you want your way, whatever the cost. This will be different for all of us. For some, it will mean giving up your right to be heard and to be quiet for a change. For others, it will mean opening your mouth and speaking up more. God will show you and direct you…you must make your decision first.
Jesus even prayed this type of prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane when He prayed, “Yet not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26: 39) If Jesus submitted, we can too. There can only be one master.
Father,
I want You to be Lord in my life, and I realize that means I need to back down. I want Your way, Your will over my own. Give me the courage and strength to live this principle out in my life. I lay my life down for You.
