Running From The HeartSample
Disciplined Thinking
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (Philippians 4:8, NLT)
“Keep your eyes focused on what is right and look straight ahead to what is good. Pay attention to God’s word and don’t ever forget His word. Keep it always in your mind. This is the key to life. Be careful what you think about because your thoughts run your life.”
In the dark days after Alex went home, I searched for God but my thinking was very confused. Although Rebecca was grieving herself, I remember the sweetness of her love and the comfort of her words and prayers, as we wept together. She encouraged me to fix my thoughts on God’s promises and the hope we have for the future, reminding me to see the bigger picture and often saying; “I wonder what Alex is doing now?”
Her words of truth touched my aching heart in a profound way and somewhere in my soul, deep was calling to deep, bringing a glimmer of hope. Yes! “What was my Alex doing?”
As an athlete, Rebecca learned how important it was to keep her mind focused on her race. In the storms of life, you may well feel pain and your thinking becomes confused.
In the storms of her life, Rebecca held on to the promises of God. She trusted God’s word to the very core of her being and with her whole heart she worshiped the God of her salvation, as she fixed her thoughts on what is true and worthy of praise.
Selah
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12:2)
Train yourself to be disciplined in your thinking. Don’t let your thoughts run wild but believe the truth of God’s word every day of your life. Renew your mind with the word of God, hold fast to what is true, resist the lies of the devil and he will flee from you.
What negative thought patterns do you need to change today?
Passing the Baton:
Be intentional, hold fast to what is true and resist all negative thoughts. Think about whatever is pure and lovely and beautiful and praiseworthy...
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, my feelings scream out that I’m unworthy, Oh God! please give me a disciplined mind to refuse these lies and give me wisdom, give me everything. When I look into myself I am so weak, but I choose to keep looking at God’s face. I need more of God’s Holy Spirit to strengthen me. Amen.
