Advance In Worship
“The God we worship is Jesus - He is the image of the invisible God - and if we dare seek Him for who He really is rather than pursue an idea of Him that fits into our tidy boxes, He will blow our minds.” - Brooke Ligertwood, Hillsong Worship
When you hear the word worship most of us immediately associate this with singing a heartfelt song to God, celebrating who He is. And it’s true, this is a form of worship. But worship is so much more encompassing than something we do in the first 20 minutes of a church service. In order to truly advance in worship, we need to understand that true worship is adopting a lifestyle that expresses our honour and worship of God.
In the Bible, we find countless verses which emphasize the importance of being called to worship. In the Old Testament, the primary form of worship was through animal sacrifice. Now, through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we no longer need to offer animal sacrifices as a form of worship to God. But just as Jesus gave his life for us, it’s now right for us to give our lives to serve him.
In Romans 12:1 Paul encourages us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice to God. Through living an obedient lifestyle that honours God in everything we do, we are able to bring Him the appropriate reverence He deserves. Simply put, worship is when all of who we are responds to all of who God is. While worship within a corporate church context is extremely important, there are a myriad of other ways in which we can respond in adoration of who God is.
It can be so easy to get caught up in the realities of life and everything we need to do. It is a choice to realign our focus and live a worshipful life, and when we do, we cannot help but see God in everything.
