[The Love Of God] The Prodigal Son Sample
The Love Of The Father
The real change in the life of the prodigal son happens in the arms of the father. The father’s embrace breaks down every barrier. It erases every feeling of shame and fear the son had. Everything he was planning to say to his father fell apart when he was met with his father’s embrace.
Imagine being in those arms. Imagine feeling guilty, unworthy, dirty, shameful, unforgiven, alone, hungry, cold, and undeserving of love and forgiveness. Imagine having all those feelings and being met halfway home by a father embracing you with such love and grace, that every one of those feelings starts to fade and disappear. Imagine an embrace like that.
The father saw the son coming home and ran towards him, hugged him, and kissed him. He did not let his son finish saying what he had planned to say, because that was not part of the father’s plan. The father’s plan was for the son to come back home and to feel loved, forgiven and welcome. The same goes for the older son. When he was angry, outside, because he could not believe that the prodigal son was back and that they were having a party for him; the father went out to where he was to meet him and to tell him that he loved him. And that everything the father had was his. He loved both sons the same.
God’s love for us is like that father’s love. God loves us no matter what. He never stops loving us with an irrevocable, steadfast, everlasting, crazy, and compelling love. Every single one of us. He does not care about our past decisions or the things we did or did not do. He wants us to get closer to Him so that He can get closer to us.
All the prodigal son needed to do was come back home. God wants us to do the same: To come back home. He will meet us halfway.
Thought of the Day: We can rest assured that we have a Father in Heaven who loves us unconditionally and will always wait, with open arms, for us to come back home. No matter what we do, He will always love us!
