Lead Through Prayer
Developing a habit of constant prayer at work is critical to igniting our leadership. Prayer is an act of humility, recognizing our need for God at all times and keeping us connected to God continuously. Psalm 37 tells us that as we commit our work to God and trust in Him, He will help us. Prayer swings the door open for God to go to work on our behalf.
Work is filled with challenges, demands and difficulties virtually every day. The enemy would like nothing more than to keep us in a state of worry, fear and anxiety because in that place, we can’t be effective. That’s why it is so important for us to pray at all times (Ephesians 6:18), without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). That does not mean to spend your entire day on your knees. It simply means to talk to God throughout the day. When you turn your concerns and challenges over to Him, He’ll give you His peace in return. You’ll find you can stay calm in the midst of chaos so you can think clearly and receive the creative solutions God wants to provide.
Daniel turned to God for solutions to a problem he could not handle in his own strength and wisdom (Daniel 2:17-19). Nehemiah said short breath prayers in situations where he needed a quick response from God (Nehemiah 2:4). Jesus prayed on the spot before he multiplied the loaves and fish to feed the masses (Matthew 14:19).
Prayer keeps us submitted to God, aware of God’s presence and in tune with His will. It also opens the door to God’s wisdom, timing and the resources we need so God can use us to contribute to the lives of others.
Pray over your work. For each meeting. For each project. Pray for your boss and the leaders of your company. Pray for your coworkers and subordinates. Pray for those you serve and those you rely on, including vendors and partners. When you do, God will watch over those relationships and go to work to produce results that are beyond what you could ask for or imagine.
Prayer
Father God, I want my relationship with you to permeate my work. Keep me sensitive to your presence and help me to remember to turn to you in prayer at all times. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
