Ye Ask Amiss

“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.” James‬ ‭4:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Check your heart. Let God’s Word cultivate the soil of your heart. Before you seek God for temporary things, choose to submit to His Word, His counsel and His correction. Let God correct you. If your heart is cluttered by the entanglements of this world how can God trust you to steward more? 

As any good father, God corrects those that He loves. God loves you. Accept His correction.‬‬ Correction is not a punishment, it’s an opportunity to adjust in order to produce more excellence fruit. Proverbs‬ ‭3:12‬ KJV states, “For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.” ‭Correction is pruning. If you’re headed in the wrong direction — let God prune you. If your heart is hardened and it needs to be softened — let God heal you. Let God remove every stone of offense that’s hidden deep within the walls of your heart. Let God give you a new heart of flesh. Renew your heart daily by digesting His Word.

Maybe lust is driving your “ask”, instead of God leading your heart. The Amplified Version expounds upon James 4:3 AMPC in this manner, “[Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures.”‬‬ Let God examine your intentions. What are your motives? What are your desires? Surrender your heart, plans and desires to God and He will lead your path. Don’t let lust rule your heart. Break free from the bondage of lust and the entanglement of sin.
