StormProof

DAY 13 OF 21

God knew the character of Job. He was intimately acquainted with His servant and all of his ways—just as he is with me and my ways, and with you and your ways. God knew that no matter what Satan did to Job, this one-of-a-kind man would still be found blameless.

Job’s storm changed the trajectory of his entire life. It also changed the perspective of God’s people on suffering from that time forward. This test has taught us all how to suffer well and how to expect the compassion of God to write the last chapter in all of our stories.

Our first response after experiencing a category 5 hurricane in life should always be to fall to our knees and break out in worship.

As we study the ensuing life of Job, we will see that he experienced days of questioning and wondering. We will see that Job wept and grieved; he suffered from a broken heart ravaged by his spasms of mourning. We understand that kind of response. What is often hard for us to understand is his first response of worship.

When cruel conditions caused by a cyclone invade your life, purpose to live in the righteousness of Christ, fall to your knees, and bless the Lord! The best way to observe storm damage is from the position of your knees. Worship transcends comprehension; you don’t need to “understand” what is happening in your life in order to worship the Lord.

You can weep—but please worship too! You can cry from human pain—but cry out to the Lord as well! I can assure you that God will take every cry of human grief that you have uttered and combine them with every song of praise that you have sacrificed, and He will create a glorious and eternal symphony. When you worship the Lord in the aftermath of the storm and gain the perspective that staying on your knees brings, you will find that the healing has begun.
