God Is ... Through MatthewSample
God is . . . The True Vine
“The greatest among you must be a servant. But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.” Matthew 23:11-12, 28 NLT
God is the True Vine. He is the example for us to follow, and we are supposed to stay connected to Him. Though there are many great leaders and teachers in this world, Jesus remains the greatest teacher of all time.
God wants you to be empowered by His Truth and His spoken Word — that is, by Jesus. He wants us to have a pure heart, not just the appearance of being good or righteous. As Jesus explained, “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NLT
Consider a time when you acted the way that others expected you to act despite not really wanting to do so or not understanding why.
Prayer:
Dear Father, give us a pure heart. Let us lead by example and not just with the knowledge that we have. Help us to stay connected to You, the True Vine, so that we can bear good fruit. May our lives reflect the greatness of Your love. Let our actions show that we believe, and let us desire to serve Your kingdom. Amen in Jesus’ name.
