DAY 27 OF 30

Want to learn something incredible about Jesus?

When Spring starts in the northern hemisphere, most of us usually picture sunshine and flowers, right?

But to the Jews of Jesus’ time, Spring was when three of the most holy feasts occurred in succession. The first holy day (holiday) was Passover, which remembered the sacrifice of a lamb during the Exodus story, that helped save the people from slavery. This holiday was observed on the 14th day of the month of Nisan every year—no matter what day of the week. The Saturday after Passover was the Feast of Unleavened Bread, when Jews asked God to bring life out of the ground in the form of wheat for making bread. And the Sunday after Unleavened Bread was the Feast of First Fruits, when the people thanked God for giving them hope in the harvest to come that year.

One Spring about 2000 years ago, Passover, Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits landed in succession—Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Friday morning, Jesus—the Lamb of God—was sacrificed to save the world (John 3:16). As the Feast of Unleavened Bread started after sundown that night, Jesus—the Bread of Life—was placed in the ground in a tomb (John 12:24). Then, on Sunday during the Feast of First Fruits, Jesus rose from the grave to bring new hope and freedom to his followers (1 Corinthians 15:20)!

This Spring, when people around the world celebrate Passover, remember that Jesus fulfilled all of the holy days and feasts throughout the Bible … and that is good news!

Jesus was sacrificed at Passover to save you, then came out of the ground alive to give you hope and new life!

For reflection:

Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them. — Philippians 4:4
