DAY 10 OF 18

Word of the Day: Sufficient

Definition: Enough to meet the needs of a situation or proposed end; qualified; competent (Merriam-Webster, 2015).

Many times, we have to face something that we feel we absolutely are unable to overcome. The very act of progressing toward it can be daunting. However, I’m reminded of Moses and the inadequacies that he mentioned to God. Moses felt that the people wouldn’t hear what he had to say. God showed him apparent signs that He was with him, yet Moses continues to doubt his worthiness, pointing out that he has a speech impediment (Exodus Ch. 4). How silly of us. God, Himself can be speaking to us and showing us the amazing things that He wants us to achieve, yet, we tell the One who created us that we are incapable. Perhaps Moses didn’t have the appearance of what he assumed one should have as a representative of God. But God saw him as eligible. God, in His loving nature, still confirmed that He would be with Moses. “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say” (Exodus 4:12).

It is so easy to get hung up on what we do not have when facing a difficult situation. We carry our own perception of the matter that can blind us from what the truth of the matter is. Despite having direct support from the Creator, we still manage to find a reason to doubt ourselves and Him. God designed us, and He knows what we can and cannot handle. So, let’s do ourselves a favor and receive His grace, which is sufficient for us. “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in your weakness.’ Therefore, most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Action: The next time you face an obstacle or something that seems impossible for you to achieve, remind yourself of the scripture, 2 Corinthians 12:9, and read it. Meditate on what that means and trust His word to perform exactly what it is saying.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank You for the understanding that You have afforded me in knowing that if You called me, that is enough of the confirmation that I need to know that I can perform any task that You give me. I am truly grateful for Your grace and assurance that You are with me. Please help me to look past what my physical eye may see while facing what I may perceive as impossible. Thank You for being reliable and loving toward me even in my learning curve of trusting You completely. All these things I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Affirmation: I receive God’s grace and I trust His word.
