 Devotional - Day 3 of 3 

“Safety of Abiding in God” 

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Psalm 91:1-2 

The entire Psalm 91 is a favorite Psalm of many people world over. Believers and non-believers alike love to read and repeat this Psalm; it is a Psalm of trust in the safety of abiding in God as your refuge, trusting that in the presence of God there is an abiding place of peace, joy, hope, wholeness and, most of all, safety!

Today, as you meditate on verse 1-2 receive the writer’s confession of assurance and confidence in God as your refuge. The person who puts his trust in God is one who lives close to Him; one who lives in the secret place, an intimate place where they know God and most importantly God knows them. In the secret place of God, one’s faith, trust and confidence grows in knowing that He delights in keeping them safe. 

It is common, whenever difficult situations arise in one’s life, that the natural tendency is to seek for a human way out, many times by calling on our connections for favors, pulling strings, bribing somebody, anything humanly possible to get one’s self out of the situation only to realize that most times all those things prove to be insufficient to deliver us from our situations. Why?  Because God is the only sure deliverer.

 Psalm 32:7 God is the hiding place; He preserves the righteous from trouble, and He surrounds the righteous with songs of deliverance.   Do you remember the Song of Moses in Exodus 15:1? God has triumphed gloriously, the horse and its rider God has overthrown into the sea.  Israel expressed exuberant joy for God’s great victory over Pharaoh and the Egyptians.  God destroyed Israel’s enemy. I believe, as you are reading this devotional today, that The Most High God is talking directly to you; He is assuring you that the battle you’re in right now, belongs to Him. He will fight for you, He will be a fortress for you. All you have to do is to take cover under His shadows and continue to praise and worship Him. 

As you make the secret place of God your dwelling place, know that every enemy, every difficult situation that seeks to oppress you, restrict you, bamboozle you, deceive you, weaken you, confuse you or even derail you from God’s purpose, God will deal with for you. Your position is to abide in Him

Beloved, know this: GOD NEVER FAILS. From this day forward, commit your entire life into His hands, trust Him, make Him your rock, your fortress, your deliverer, your strength and shield,  the horn of your salvation and your stronghold (Psalm 18:1-2). Make Him your high tower (Psalm 144:2) and stay safe under His shadows.
