Social Myths Or Spiritual Truths - Trust Fall Series

DAY 4 OF 5

The Bible is Time-worthy

It has been said that the famous writer Mark Twain remarked, “The Bible is a book that everyone praises but few people read.”

If you say, “I haven’t got enough time to read the Bible,” then you are way too busy.

Lifeway Research took a look at Bible engagement within the Church and found that 34% of the church rarely or never read their Bible, 27% read it at least once a month, 27% read it at least once a week, and only 11% read their Bible every day.

When studying the Bible – meaning you look at it a little bit deeper – these numbers get worse: 3% actually study their Bible each day; 21% once a week (which is likely counting sermons at church); 22% at least once a month; and 52% rarely or never!

Which of these percentages represents you personally?

American people on average take in seven hours of talk radio, TV, media, and the internet every day. Despite all those hours of taking in content, 89% of us don’t read the Bible every day. Why wouldn’t we follow cleverly devised and contrived myths?

What does your Bible look like? If you have had your Bible for more than a couple of years and it doesn’t have some wear and tear on it, you are not reading it enough. If you die and your family finds your fifth grade Bible, and it looks just the same at the end of your life as when it did in fifth grade, that is a testimony to your family about the lack of Scripture in your life. What does your Bible look like? Is it worn out? Many say they don’t have enough time to read their Bible. When you do have the time, do you take your Bible with you on vacation or does it stay at home?

Let me get really in your business. Do you take your Bible to church? You know the pastor is going to preach out of it. Do you take notes at church? Do you want to learn from this thing or are you just waiting for lunch?

If you don’t have your Bible with you right now, do you even know where it is in your house? You have many versions of the Bible at your fingertips right now on this app as you read.

Think about this: We cannot follow eternal truths unless we read and study the Scriptures.
