Everything for Life and Godliness
In 2 Peter 1:3-4, the Apostle Peter tells us that God’s divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness. That by the precious promises of God we can share in His nature and stay out of sin.
Through knowing Christ, we have all we need for life and godliness. Not through us nor through what we do. Knowing Jesus is what will rescue us from living a life of sin. (1 Corinthians 3:21-22)
At times we feel like: “I don’t have the resources to do what God has called me to do in life.” And yet, actually, Jesus is our resource. Jesus has given you everything you need for life and everything you need for godliness. (Romans 8:32)
When I need courage, Jesus can be my resource for courage. When I need wisdom, He is my resource for wisdom. When I need help in parenting, He is my resource for help in parenting. When I need help in marriage, He is my resource for life in marriage. For those who are single, He is your resource for life in singlehood. He is your wisdom. He is your heart. He is your strength. For life and godliness.
I love that. How many times do we say, “Eh, I hope I can do this?” Jesus is saying, “You’ve got this. You can do it. You can walk in a spiritually mature and godly way, because I will be your resource.”
Truth is, all of us struggle with sin. There are some, though, who have such sweet, or meek, or persuadable personalities, you get mowed over by peer pressure. You say “yes” to something, but you know in your heart you should be saying “no.” You say “no,” and you know that you should be saying “yes.”
I want you to hear from me, from Peter, and from the Word of God, that you have the strength to live for God. You don’t have to sin. You don’t have to follow that path. You have everything you need for life and for godliness. Jesus is your resource. When you need strength to follow Christ, not others, Jesus is the resource. When you need guidance in life, Jesus is the resource. When you need peace in the storm, Jesus is the resource. When you need wisdom in decisions, Jesus is the resource. It is through knowing Him that we are equipped to live a life for Him. (Philippians 3:10)
So, who do we “trust fall” into? God says, “I’ll catch you. I’ve got you right here.”
