Living a Pure LifeSample
God, not the world, tells us how to define purity.
Purity isn’t a word we hear a lot anymore. It can seem confusing, but it actually means “free from contamination.” If that sounds kind of like science class, you’re right. Something that’s pure is something that is 100 percent its own thing. Nothing else has been added to it. It’s clean. It’s “pure.”
As followers of Jesus, we’re actually supposed to live pure lives, too. But the world gives us a lot of mixed messages about purity that don’t line up with what God says about it. Check out today’s video to see how sometimes culture sends us hidden messages that sound okay but are actually hiding some pretty ugly lies about purity.
So, when it comes down to it: God, not the world, tells us how to define purity. That’s important because culture’s definition of purity is pretty upside down. But God’s definition of purity is perfect because God is perfect. He’s holy. He is pure.
And because God knows what’s best for us, He wants the best from us. That’s why it really matters that we choose to pursue real purity. In today’s verses, we’ll explore the idea that God calls us to be different from the world around us. Just as He is holy, we are supposed to be holy. Before we know God, we live like the world around us—lost and impure. But after we follow Jesus, we are His people, and because of that, we don’t listen to the world’s standards—we follow God’s standards.
When we pursue a life of purity, we start getting a pure heart. And when we do that, Jesus says in Matthew 5:8 that we will see God. Instead of listening to the impure messages around you, you’ll be able to tell which messages are pure and worth listening to. So over the next few days, we’ll keep talking about what purity is, why it matters, and how we can pursue it.
