How To Pray More Effectively Sample
The Lord’s Prayer
If today you started this plan because you are wondering how you can pray more effectively, know that this is a great desire to have. Your heart is in the right place. Wanting to pray effectively means you desire to build a relationship with God and have communication with Him. This is awesome! We are blessed in the Gospels by Jesus telling us how to pray. Jesus says that when you pray, don't show off by praying publicly or babbling all sorts of words. He assures you that your Father God already knows your needs before even asking for them. In the book of Matthew, Jesus instructs that when you pray you should pray like this:
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one."
This Bible passage is often called The Lord's Prayer. It's the prayer that Jesus left for you and me to teach us how to pray. Is it the only prayer to pray? Absolutely not. But it's a good prayer to pray, especially when you don't know what to say.
Praying is like breathing. It is something you should constantly do, continually, and without ceasing. An essential step in being effective in your prayers is to remember to Whom you are speaking. If you know Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then God is your Father, which means you have been invited through Christ to come before the throne of grace. Thus, because God desires for you to commune and talk with Him, you can therefore pray with confidence, knowing that He hears you. God is not concerned about the length of your prayer or whether you sound eloquent or not. God desires you. He is your Father and wants to hear from you. Your approach to Him must be one of honor and reverence, which allows you to both humbly and boldly pour out what's on your heart and mind.
If you haven't already, I encourage you to say a prayer today. It doesn't matter if it's short and simple. Pour out your heart and thoughts to Him. He's ready for you.
