MERCY

“But God’s not finished. He’s waiting around to be gracious to you. He’s gathering strength to show mercy to you. God takes the time to do everything right—everything. Those who wait around for Him are the lucky ones.”

Mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone who is deserving of the opposite. 

Choosing to step into relationships and community is a lot like looking into a magnified mirror for the first time. All the good (and not so good parts) about you are magnified in ways they never have been before. When you chose to truly share who you are with others, it’s a whole new dimension of vulnerability.

Vulnerability demands mercy – everyone needs space and compassion to grow, become better, and develop a deeper sense of character. My community at Mosaic has shown me this mercy over and over again. Jesus continually gives me mercy when I mess up or I don’t deserve it. 

The song Mercy on our record Heaven is a song rejoicing that God gives us His compassion and forgiveness when it’s always in His power to choose differently. He’s waiting around to be gracious to us. His strength carries us when we can’t go any further. 

Being in relationship with Jesus and being in relationship with other people who are striving to be like Jesus are two of the most humbling and beautiful things I’ve ever said yes to. I’d wait around on that forever!

When is a time you felt you’ve been extended mercy? How can you take the compassion and kindness you were shown and apply it to something or someone you are in relationship with this week? 

PRAYER

God, thank You for showing us compassion and forgiveness when we least deserve it. Thank You for loving us and giving us strength with Your strength. Help us to patiently wait on You and to always be working to extend Your mercy to those around us.
