DAY 5 OF 5

Today’s Look into the Closet of Exchange:

Charles Spurgeon said, “Rest time is not waste time. It is economy to gather fresh strength… It is wisdom to take occasional furlough. In the long run, we shall do more by sometimes doing less.” I learned this quote when I was in Bible college, and I committed it to memory. It was one of the first times I had heard it was okay for a full-time missionary and pastor to stop and do what the Lord intended on the seventh day, when He created the invisible gift of Sabbath. Not only did He create it, but He also modeled it!

My closet has tons of what I call Christian “work” clothes. Those are the days of long hours, when you feel like there wasn’t enough time, gratitude, or even confidence to complete the day’s to-do list. Sometimes, those work clothes come with grumbling, heavy sighs, depression, and a desire to run away.

I love that the Lord wants us to get our kicks on! Go spend time alone or with those who feed your soul. Sometimes, the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap. Recharge. Get refreshed and renewed. Unplug. Blast the music. Or be completely silent and listen to the birds as they sing.

The best part of Mark 6:31 (at least in my opinion) is the invitation from God: “Come with me…to a quiet place and get some rest.” It’s not time for chatter; it is time to be alone in His presence. Do you hear Him calling your name? Take in a deep breath, then let it out...Now, do you hear Him?

Today’s Life Exchange:

1. Do you regularly and deliberately take time to rest and play each week?

2. Cultivate a hobby that relieves your stress and frees you to be creative.

3. Grab your fun clothes and go—right now!
