Dwelling in the Secret Place 

"There is no place like home" is a phrase often recited after some time away from the comforts of home. Most people find that no matter how comfortable or “plush” their "get away from home" accommodation is, there is truly no place like home.

Home is a place of comfort where you can be yourself and do as it pleases you.

I was never brought up to sleep out. My mum just wasn’t into the "sleepover" business and with some of the stories I have now heard in my adult life, I am actually grateful. 

This principle has stayed with me. No matter how tired I am, I may become irritable or moody, but the chance of falling asleep somewhere outside my home is highly unlikely (unless I am away on holidays). 

There is something so comforting about my home, and of course my bed, that until I get there, sleep just won’t find me.

We know that we are here (in this world) on a journey. We are here temporarily for a short while—like the Israelites spent some time in Egypt. When the time is right, God will call us from this life, back home to eternity. However, before then, God gives us the opportunity to be home whilst we are away from home.

Don’t you just love God? Whilst we are here on earth, He affords us the privilege of spending time with Him. 

How?

Well…


⁃ He lives in us and we live in Him


⁃ Our bodies are His temple

Through the Psalms, we can also see evidence that David was exposed to this supernatural knowledge. He didn’t have Christ living in Him as we have today, neither did he have the privilege of being a temple. But he went to all lengths to be intimate with God, having a deep desire to build a temple for God. and to dwell in it all the days of his life.

We have something better than David. We have Jesus Christ. We have the opportunity of living in the Secret Place—our heavenly home—right now whilst we are here on earth. We have the chance to see God’s beauty and to benefit from His protection day and night. We may be living in this world, but essentially we are separate and protected from it.

It is another year to celebrate your time here on earth. Make it worthwhile by not just visiting "home" every now and then, but dwelling there—living in the Secret Place—spending intimate and meaningful time with God, and cultivating the habit of communing with Him as if taking shade in His shadow. Because abiding under His shadow requires close proximity.

Let's Pray:

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the opportunity to live in the Secret Place even though I am on a journey here on earth. Thank You for loving me and giving me the opportunity to be intimate and close with You. I pray that in the years to come I will not be distracted from the Secret Place and it will continue to be my abode and place of rest even whilst on this earth. .
