What If

DAY 1 OF 4

What If God Answers Prayers

Christians love to proclaim that there is a good God. And that good God loves us so much that he sent his Son to die on the cross so that we can also be his sons and daughters. We may not know that much about theology, but all of us Christ followers believe and proclaim this simple truth: God loves us, God’s Son died and was resurrected for us, and we are now his children.

So here’s the thing. If we believe that Jesus has adopted us into his family through his sacrifice on the cross, if we believe that we are now the children of God Almighty, shouldn’t we pray to him more? Shouldn’t we ask for good things:  wisdom, providence, direction, and even comfort? That’s what we should do if we truly believe that God answers our prayers.

But what do we do instead? We worry and we struggle. We fight with one another to take what we want. We let our wants and desires overcome the peace and joy that God has set aside for us. James explicitly warned us that we do these silly things because we have not ask God in the first place. We say we believe that the God Creator of the universe is our loving Father, but we behave as if we are homeless orphans.

If we believe God, we should not worry ourselves to death. If we believe that God loves us and wants to provide for us, then we don’t need to scheme to take something that belongs to others. If we truly believe that God answers prayers, then we should always ask God in prayers and supplications.

So let’s make sure that we practice what we believe. What if we believe that God answers prayers? Then we are too busy not to pray. Since we are always running out of time, out of money, out of energy, and out of answers, shouldn’t we pray even more? God wants to be the one who gives us more time, more resources, more energy, more answers, and every good things that we need. That’s what fathers who love to do: provide for their children. All the children have to do is ask. In this case, ask in prayer.

Ask. Seek. Knock. God will answer your prayers because he is our Father. And our Good Father will always give us what we need.
