Priceless: Who I Am When I Feel...Sample
When I Feel Angry...I’m TRUSTING GOD to Defend My Cause or Give Me a New Cause
Who or what makes you angry? It might make you feel better to know that God gets angry too. He understands. The feeling of anger isn’t a sin; it’s what we do with our anger that can become a sin. We have to take our anger to the truth of God’s Word BEFORE we let it loose.
Have you ever tried to put toothpaste back into the tube after you squeezed it out?
Newsflash: It can’t be done. Once it’s out there. It’s out there. The same is true with our words, especially our angry words.
Anger becomes a sin when I lose my temper, become bitter in my heart, or lash out to hurt someone. However, anger can be a good thing if it moves us to action. It’s important to have anger against injustice and sin. Anger can make us passionate about defending the helpless and protecting our freedoms.
Here’s God’s best advice about what to do when you feel angry:
1. Don’t speak or act right away. Stand in front of a mirror to say what you feel, but not someone you love, or like, or even hate. Remember: You can’t put it back!
2. Pray first. Ask God to defend your cause and let Him fight for you first before you fight for you. He might just solve your problem better than you could.
3. Ask God to turn your anger into passion for a good cause. Channel your passion into purpose.
It’s your turn to try it. Try praying these words OUT LOUD…
Dear Faithful Fighting Father,
The feeling of anger is so real. I want to break free from those chains today. I want to have the opposite of anger, which is love, joy and peace. I want to be controlled by your Spirit that lives inside of me instead of being controlled by my wounded heart. Please don’t allow anger to control me today. I choose to be filled with Your peace that passes all understanding. Help me to see the people who make me angry the way you see them. Make Your desires my desires too!
Today, I choose to let go of my anger. I choose to pray for my enemies. I choose to trust You to defend my cause, or turn it into something good!
