Developing A Godly Relationship With Money

DAY 7 OF 7

Money Law #5: Self Respect

As we conclude this devotional, I would like to bring to your attention one of the most important reasons you need to have a good relationship with money. Poverty, in spite of all its praise, is dehumanizing. There is nothing noble about poverty. The only thing that poverty does to a human is to strip him/her of all dignity and self-respect. Poverty limits people, and money helps people to have options.

Money, when used well provides dignity and can be a good defence for most of the human indignities. Hunger, nakedness, disease, and sickness can be avoided when money is used well. I like what 1 Thessalonians says, “Make it your aim to live a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to earn your own living, just as we told you before. In this way, you will win the respect of those who are not believers, and you will not have to depend on anyone for what you need”.

This passage of scripture point blankly shows us that money will bring self-respect and independence. Money brings dignity and people respect people with money because the assumption used is that those people are adding value to society. There is nothing more dignified than a man or woman who is adding value to society and in turn, making enough money to live a dignified existence. There is nothing wrong with making a lot of money if the money is a true representation of the value one is adding to society.

Whatever you may say about money that is not good, I have my own conclusion. Money is important and I will give it the respect it deserves. I don’t see anything wrong in having a healthy appetite to earn as much as God gives me the ability to, so I can live a dignified life.

Day 6

About this Plan

Developing A Godly Relationship With Money

This is a reading plan on how to develop a healthy relationship with money. Money is a subject that most "good" people don't want to engage because it is associated with a lot of bad things. While others have used money for evil, most money is used for good. We interact with it everyday and yet few people take time to develop a healthy relationship with it. It is wise to develop a good understanding of this important subject.
