Declutter Now! 30 Day DevotionalSample
Keeping Clutter at Bay
Once you’ve physically decluttered, preventing the clutter from returning is crucial.
Consider what got you into trouble in the first place. Did you succumb to marvelous marketing ploys that promised life would be perfect if you just purchased a particular product? Was ‘keeping up with Joneses’ an issue? Did ‘clinging to the past’ bring comfort? Is the ‘more is better’ mindset a problem?
When we take a step back and think about it logically, getting caught up in the temptations of the world does us absolutely no heavenly good. Material things may bring momentary pleasure, but if being completely honest, most would admit to knowing that there is no security in stuff, nor does it bring us long term joy. It shouldn’t matter what anyone else has or does; our true pleasures are found in the treasures of our own heart, not our neighbors. We are assured over and over again that God will provide for all our needs. We need not store up an overabundance of unnecessary material things in an effort to feel secure.
Think about how nice it would be to just enjoy maintenance mode with no big decluttering undertakings required. Whatever prompted your clutter, it’s time to address it and put safeguards in place so history doesn’t repeat itself. We want you to enjoy your clutter free space for a lifetime! And it’s entirely possible!
What will you declutter? Future ‘big’ decluttering projects, misusing finite personal resources, misplaced attention and worry, and harmful distractions which keep you enjoying and edifying God’s kingdom.
