Lazarus Come Forth

DAY 5 OF 5

Freedom is Here

Here we are on the last day of our study of the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. At this point in the story, there is some exciting turn of events. I was awestruck at the power of Jesus to raise the dead, but when you read on, you’ll see that Jesus did this while knowing that some would still seek to kill him for the love he just showed Lazarus.

John 11:45 tells that after what they saw Jesus do this, that “many” believed on him.

John 11:46 shows us that others ran straight to the Pharisees to tell them what Jesus had done, like children running to tell their parents what their sibling had done "wrong."

As you read the rest of the story, you’ll see it was a mere nine verses from which Jesus raised Lazarus to when they took counsel to put Jesus to death.

Jesus accomplished what was meant to be achieved through raising Lazarus from the grave. We wish that these events would have caused everyone witnessing to come forth in freedom, believing in Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, that's not what we see come to fruition in the passage. Some don't; they run to the Pharisees, and they don't seem to give Jesus' miracle a second thought, other than scrutinizing him for it.

How will you respond now that we've concluded our study of Lazarus? Come forth in freedom and meet a Savior who is more than enough and can forgive any past, present or future sin. Jesus died on the cross and resurrected three days later so that we may have life.

"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." — 2 Corinthians 5:21
