Are You Stuck? How to Conquer IndecisionSample
A Fresh Perspective
Maybe you’ve tried to make a major decision but the same thoughts just run over and in your mind -- paralyzing thoughts that torment you into inaction. That’s what happened to Sheri.
But I was able to give her some counsel because I knew the Holy Spirit had an answer. Even if you’ve been wandering in the wilderness for years, your Father knows how to make a way out! He can give you direction and make your life sweet again, with rivers of living water flowing through what has been a dry desert. He has a fresh perspective to help you see current problems in a different light—His light, a new light.
Sheri had been focused on the “leave or stay” question; but maybe what she needed was a new perspective on her marriage, a new way to treat her husband, a fresh new hope for love and respect to grow between them.
Many times if you’ve been looking so long in one direction, you think there are only one or two answers and you can’t see other directions God may want to lead you to. Sometimes a new perspective is needed, a brand new way of seeing the situation. That can come only from time spent with Him.
I asked Sheri, “Have you spent concentrated time with God lately? Don’t even seek Him about this particular situation, just soak your spirit in His Word and His love until you can see things the way He sees them.”
I also told her to stop beating herself up over being a bad testimony. That’s just too much pressure for anyone to live up to—and remember, pressure comes from the devil, the enemy of our souls, the accuser of the brethren (see Rev. 12:10). Yes, we want to be a good testimony, but that comes from seeking and obeying God, not from trying to be good enough to others.
And you’ll be surprised—when you focus on hearing from God and seeing things the way He sees them instead of trying to live up to impossible standards, you can get a fresh perspective. God will take what the devil meant for evil and work it for good!
