Rise: Stepping Up To God's CallSample
Discovery through Obedience
“God has a plan for your life.” That statement is either comforting or confusing. It’s good to know that God has a plan, but it sometimes feels like God keeps that plan a secret. But what if it isn’t a secret? What if we CAN know God’s will for our lives?
Thought:
Jesus was clear about God’s will for your life: obey the two “Great Commandments.” You will discover God’s will for your life by being obedient to His commandments.
Living out God’s will isn’t always easy, but it is simple. It means living out the two Great Commandments: Love God-above all else; and Love people-all people, as much as you love yourself. Jesus said if we did those two things, we would accomplish all of God’s commands.
See? It’s not complicated. When we ask God to show us His will for our lives, I think He just points at these commands and says, “Do that.” If you spend your life being obedient to these two Great Commandments, you will discover God’s will one-decision-to-love at a time. “What should I do after High School?” “Should I go to this college or that college?” Those are the wrong questions. If you want to know God’s will for your life, then you need to ask, “How can I love God? How can I love my neighbor?” The path of God’s will is paved with your decisions to Love.
Challenge:
- GOD’S WILL! Have you ever wanted to know the will of God? How does it change your perspective on His will, knowing that He wants you to do whatever will help you love Him and others better?
- WHAT ABOUT YOU? Is there anything that is keeping you from loving God or others right now?
- PRAY! “Father, help me to love You more. Forgive me for the times that I don’t treat others with the love that You have shown me. Empower me to live out Your purpose, each day. Amen.
