Unshakeable Peace

Have you ever thought about how God is continually observing your life—noticing your wanderings and sleeping, waking and dreaming? How would it change your relationship with Him to settle into the truth that He is always watching over you, whatever you do and wherever you go?

As I moved through the doorway of the restaurant, I turned to count heads only to find out that we were missing our precious little miss. That’s because I was in such a hurry to meet my dad, I jumped out of the car and scurried down the cobblestone block without looking back, figuring all my chickadees would quickly follow suit. Somehow my girl got left behind! My heart raced in triple time. Where could she be? I only took my eyes off her for a moment. I imagined her whisked off by some perpetrator. But instead of retracing my steps, I urged my husband, “Go, go, go find her!”

Minutes later, they walked in the door together, and I grabbed that little babe as if I’d never seen her before. Turns out that everyone jumped out of the car, closing the doors while she was stuck in the way back. By the time she could get to the front to get out, everyone was gone, so she decided to stay put until we came back for her. I always told the kids that if we ever got separated in a public place, to stay at the last place we were together. She listened well, apparently, and quite calmly at that. 

There were no drama tears, but a few giggles over how she passed her time…sitting in the front seat and partaking of some gum while playing on her iPod. 

She knew we were coming for her. She knew we wouldn’t abandon her. And so she kept on living without a fuss in the world.

Imagine if we lived with that kind of certainty of God’s love and faithfulness—because, unlike this mama, God never takes His eyes off us. He sees us…all the time.

He made us, He watches us, He knows us better than anyone else in this world.

If we really believed this truth, would we be like my little girl, content to carry on with unshakeable peace permeating our souls?
