Friendships That Last A Lifetime
Sometimes it’s good to evaluate the “life-giving” relationships in your life. Friendship is work. It’s not all parties and celebrations, sometimes it’s a sacrifice and painful. We have to ask ourselves, am I a “good friend”? Do my friends hear from me, do I know what’s going on in their lives......am I doing too much? Am I keeping the dream of friendship alive with someone who has moved on?
I had this talk with someone a few weeks ago, it’s painful. We all desire and have the need for friendship in our lives, but if we aren't careful we can be connected to the wrong people. Friendship goes both ways, it meets a need in both lives, it’s not always 50/50, but it can’t be something that only one person is working at.
Is your friend really a fictional character....showing up only for the ball, never to be heard from when your stage coach turns back into a pumpkin. Make lifelong friendships with people, people that speak into your life. When was the last time you prayed with your friends? When was the last time you spoke life to/over your friends?
We are social creatures, we desire to feel loved, needed and protected. As Christians we may be the missing part of someone’s world, the part that is bringing Light to their darkness. To have a friend, we have to be a friend, don’t walk alone, take the first step. Find someone who appreciates you and reciprocates your communication and friendship. And maybe now is the time to sever toxic/non life giving friendships, so you can get a healthy perspective again.
Challenge:
Today, be a good friend. Pray for your friends, send them and encouraging word or text. Be that person that you are longing to have in your life.
