Week 8: Things Unseen: God’s Promise Through the Kingdom
God’s Promise: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33 NIV)
My Promise: I will seek first God’s kingdom.
If your father is the king, everything changes. If the king is an unknown fearless force who rules from the opposite side of a castle wall, you have a king and nothing more. But if the king is the man who butters your bread, tucks you in, and locks the door at night, you have more than a king; you have a reason to smile. You know the king’s heart, and the king knows your name, and extends this unspeakable invitation: Come and enter the kingdom of God. There is only one condition. And this condition is a deal-breaker. The kingdom has one king. The throne permits one occupant and that occupant isn’t moving. The role of “Your Highness” has been assigned to someone else. You and I are welcome to enter the throne room, but we have to surrender our crowns at the door. When we do this, though, our good king offers us so much more than we could ever ask or imagine.
Unshakable Hope Declaration
We are building our lives on the promises of God. Because his Word is unbreakable, our hope is unshakable. We do not stand on the problems of life or the pain in life. We stand on the great and precious promises of God.
About this Plan
When life shifts toward struggles or pain or disappointment, where do you turn? When uncertainty invades or sorrow seeps in, where do you look for answers? Here’s a suggestion: turn to one of over 7,000 biblical reminders of God’s care, concern, and guardianship. God, both promise-maker and promise-keeper, “has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4 NIV). Through this reading plan, we’ll become well acquainted with many of these promises and learn to rely on them in every turn of life. Unshakable Hope-Courage is the second installment of a three part series. Part 1 is titled Unshakable Hope-Strength.
