Family Membership

Family membership is a vital strand of healthy emotional and psychosocial development. A child who has no close family relationships will carry feelings of psychological and social dislocation. In contrast, the certainty of unconditional love in family membership provides anchorage and the reassurance of practical and emotional support throughout life, acting as a secure base for exploration, identity and personal development.

For many of the children we work with in China, helping them move from orphanages into their new families in China has resulted in miraculous healing in their lives. Li Li was placed into a family when she was just four months old. Born with a congenital heart disease, there was little hope for this frail little girl. Her foster mother, a Chinese Christian, devoted herself to caring for Li Li. I visited Li Li when she was 4 years old, a cheeky, chubby vivacious little girl. The hospital was astonished as her medical condition had totally gone - her heart had healed itself. The Chinese newspaper reported “Miracle baby healed by the love of a mother”.

Jesus healed bodies, diseases and even brought people back from the dead. He has power over the physical universe. All Jesus did in the physical realm was to help us learn who He was in the spiritual realm. We can put our faith and trust in the power of the God for our eternal lives as well as our temporal ones.
