The Gospel of Mark reads as Peter’s eyewitness account of Jesus’ ministry. This plan will give us the chance to encounter Jesus in the way that the apostle Peter encountered Jesus. 

Mark’s gospel is short. It is focused. Like a feisty bulldog, it reads with a compelling narrative. Its ending is sudden and unexpected. It has been said that it was impossible for Mark to write a boring sentence.

How to Read the Gospel of Mark

This is the third quarter of a plan to read the entire New Testament in one year. One Gospel is included in each quarter. Weekends can be used to reflect on or memorize a key verse. Notes are also included to assist with understanding.

Mark uses the word “immediately” over forty times in his Gospel, emphasizing the intentional nature of Jesus’ ministry. The quick succession of healings and miracles shows that Jesus “came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:44). Through Mark’s Gospel, we are reminded that true greatness in God’s kingdom comes not through selfish ambition, but by being the servant of all.
