Enforcing You: Standing on the Promises of GodPrøve
“As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I SHALL BE SATISFIED WHEN I WAKE IN YOUR LIKENESS.” Psalm 17:15 NKJV (Emphasis mine)
In Psalm 17, David wrestles with the wickedness of the world and the deception of satisfaction that it promises. He speaks of worldly possessions and the false fulfillment people find in them, albeit temporary. However, David ends the whole psalm with this climatic declaration that his life is not about what he possesses or what he accomplished, but rather who he is becoming. He knows the satisfaction and completeness of life are about growing on the inside, not the outside.
Isn’t it true that the world offers things that promise to satisfy us? Even in relationships, we often make unhealthy decisions because we have been told that our “completion” is found in people. I find it refreshing to consider the simplicity of recognizing that I am designed to reflect the likeness of God and that I don’t have to worry about what I see around me. Instead, I need to focus on what God is doing within me.
The world will try to get us to reflect its ways and conform to its rules. It will tell us that satisfaction is found in accomplishments or relationships. It offers empty promises that ultimately leave us depleted and disappointed. But God says our completion is not found in the world; it is not found on the outside of us. Only in His image INSIDE of us will we find our completion. In other words, our identity is not around us; it is within us.
Forget about your accomplishments and forget about your possessions and focus on yourself! What do you see? Do you see that you are created to wake up each day and reflect the likeness of God? Are you satisfied with this alone?
It is GOOD to feel complete, satisfied, and fulfilled not because of what you have done or where you are going but simply because of who you are created to be!
Let’s embrace this Truth together and declare it now. “God, I repent of looking for satisfaction in the world and my accomplishments and receive the contentment of the Kingdom. I declare that when I wake, I AM satisfied because of Your likeness within me!”
