Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 6Prøve
740 BC Ahaz asks Assyria for help because Philistia and Edom have invaded and taken captives. He bribes Tiglathpileser of Assyria to capture Damascus and kill King Rezin and then starts to worship their god! Assyria conquers parts of the Northern Kingdom and exiles the people of Gilead, Zebulun and Naphtali (causing Isaiah to predict its glorious future when Christ comes). Isaiah tells Israel it has been God’s vineyard but having despised His help, God has now whistled for a nation to waste it and apply judgment. Hoshea murders Pekah in the twentieth year of Jotham (four years after he stopped ruling the Southern Kingdom). Then follows ten further years of anarchy in the Northern Kingdom until Hoshea is able to restore some order for ten years.
