Promises for the Journey

Dag 2 van 8

Your sins are forgiven.

Can I be totally honest with you? Sin really stinks. I know sometimes it may feel good in the moment, but the repercussions you experience after the moment are really what makes it stink.

This has been going on since Adam and Eve were in the garden. If you remember the story, Eve thought the fruit looked good and would have the added benefit of giving her wisdom, so they both ate the fruit. As the saying goes, the rest is history.

You and I have done the same thing. Consider these questions:

  • Has temptation ever looked good to you? I mean, pleasing to the eye good.
  • Have you ever indulged in that temptation?
  • Did you find yourself not feeling so good afterward?

This is where sin stinks because you think it will be good for you until you participate. It is only then you understand how bad it is. This recognition causes you sadness, grief, and regret. You may even constantly ask yourself, why did I do that? It is here you discover the difficulty of letting go of regret.

Despite all your regrets, I have good news for you today. If you are in Christ, he has forgiven all your sins. Consider these two verses.

Psalm 103:1-3 - Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

There is one important word that appears in both passages…that word is all. God has forgiven all of your sins and purified you from all unrighteousness. The last time I checked, all means all.

Let me repeat this. In Christ, all of your sins have been forgiven. You must walk in this truth, and you must live in this truth.

From this point forward, stop holding on to sins you have confessed and stop holding on to regret. If you have confessed and repented, it is time to pick yourself up and start moving ahead. Satan will try to keep you looking back at your past mistakes because he knows this will keep you trapped in the past.

However, God will never remind you of the sin you have repented of, and he has forgiven you. He will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever do this (I think you get the point), so stop looking backward and start moving forward. The only sin God will ever remind you of is the sin you haven’t repented of. So If he is reminding you of sin right now, that means it’s time to repent.

Someone said, “You can’t get to the next chapter in life if you keep re-reading the previous one.” It is time to turn the page and start a new chapter. Here are two promises from scripture and an affirmation to help you.

Psalm 103:12 - as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us
Isaiah 1:18 – Come now let us reason says the Lord, though your sins are like scarlet they will white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they will be as wool

Affirmation - I am cleansed and forgiven, and God will never remind me of past sins.

I encourage you to walk today in the forgiveness God has given.
