Amos 5:18
Amos 5:18-20 The Message (MSG)
Woe to all of you who want GOD’s Judgment Day! Why would you want to see GOD, want him to come? When GOD comes, it will be bad news before it’s good news, the worst of times, not the best of times. Here’s what it’s like: A man runs from a lion right into the jaws of a bear. A woman goes home after a hard day’s work and is raped by a neighbor. At GOD’s coming we face hard reality, not fantasy— a black cloud with no silver lining.
Amos 5:18 King James Version (KJV)
Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.
Amos 5:18 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
Alas, you who are longing for the day of the LORD, For what purpose will the day of the LORD be to you? It will be darkness and not light
Amos 5:18 New Century Version (NCV)
How terrible it will be for you who want the LORD’s day of judging to come. Why do you want that day to come? It will bring darkness for you, not light.
Amos 5:18 American Standard Version (ASV)
Woe unto you that desire the day of Jehovah! Wherefore would ye have the day of Jehovah? It is darkness, and not light.
Amos 5:18 New International Version (NIV)
Woe to you who long for the day of the LORD! Why do you long for the day of the LORD? That day will be darkness, not light.
Amos 5:18 New King James Version (NKJV)
Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! For what good is the day of the LORD to you? It will be darkness, and not light.
Amos 5:18 Amplified Bible (AMP)
¶Woe (judgment is coming) to you who desire the day of the LORD [expecting rescue from the Gentiles]! Why would you want the day of the LORD? It is darkness (judgment) and not light [and rescue and prosperity]
