An Anchored Identity: An Invitation to Abiding Confidence and Security in Christ a 5-Day Plan by Brittany J. Turnerနမူနာ
Day 4: I am an Heir
Growing up, there was a popular TV show that involved two socialites. These two daughters were billionaires by birth but spent the show attempting to do jobs and live as everyday people. They left behind their celebrity status, cell phones, and credit cards to do everything from farming to sausage making, and even spent a season as camp counselors.
People were hooked to the show season after season, drawn in to watch the daughters of billionaires living like everyday people. We look at royalty the same way. I believe it’s because there is a certain expectation of them to live and act differently.
We expect them to walk and live differently because they are different. They have access to more resources such as connections, money, and opportunities than most of us will ever encounter.
Did you know our lives in Christ have a similar appeal? While we don’t have immediate access to earthly riches, we are immediately made heirs to the kingdom of heaven. We are granted access to more resources, connections, and opportunities than anything earth can offer. Everything down here is a resource, but God is our ultimate source.
I have personally seen God open doors for jobs that did not exist until I needed them, pour out favor in places that were unexplainable, give me divine strategy and guidance, and burden my heart when I was in desperate need of correction. Just like those socialites could rely on the bank accounts of their Fathers, we can place our faith in the abundant riches of our Father.
Scripture shows us that not only do we have access to the riches in glory, but we have a permanent inheritance as a joint heir with Christ. One that is imperishable, undefiled, unfading, and kept in heaven just for us. (1 Peter 1:22) Once we accept Christ, everything we do to honor Him just adds to our reward in heaven.
We are guarded and guaranteed by the Spirit. Secured. He remains with us- leading us and guiding us according to the power of God. When trials come I can trust that they had to come through my bodyguard –The Spirit will only allow what God gives permission.
His will is not always easy, or even something we desire, but God never abandons us. He is not afraid of our emotions. Instead, He draws us even closer, promising us His presence as we endure it all.
Affirmation:
I am a royal heir to the kingdom. My life looks different, and I move differently because of who I am. I am divinely protected and provided for because my source is my God. Through His love, I will always overcome. Amen.
Reflection Questions-
In what ways should your permanent position at His side affect your actions? Which of your habits is God bringing to your attention that is in need of surrender? How does knowing you are guarded and guaranteed an inheritance and a place in God change how your view yourself?
