Things That Only Jesus Can Give Youနမူနာ
Only Jesus can give you whatever you need
“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask
whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
This is one incredible promise. “Ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” Whatever.
Jesus, is this really true? Of course, it’s true. It is spoken by the one who embodies truth, the one who said, “I am the truth.”
But you may be thinking that it doesn’t seem to be completely true to you. Maybe you are missing the first part of the sentence:
“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you.”
With the striking promise comes a striking condition: abide in Jesus. How do we abide in Jesus? What does this mean? Abide is one of those big words in the Bible that is obviously an important word, but it is not obvious what it means.
Literally, the word abide means to remain. Jesus is telling you: “Remain in me. Remain close to me. Stay connected to me, dependent on me, and attached to me. Make yourself at home with me, intimate with me. Rest in me.”
All of this is what it means when Jesus says to you, “Abide in me.”
Not working harder to please God, not endless effort to please God, not religious duty and obligation.
No; resting in Jesus, drawing close to Jesus, intimacy with Jesus is what he wants. Trusting, not trying. Absolute dependence.
Like a vine and its support, stay connected to Jesus. Depend on him.
Is this you? If it is, to the extent that it should be, his promise is stunning. “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

The Apostle John identifies himself as the one dear to Jesus and the one who rested his head on Jesus’ breast. Being that close to the Master he must have seen what Jesus gave to the people during His ministry and registered them in his Gospel. Let us see in this plan what he says Jesus can give you. Like no one else can.
