We Give Our Lives
Drawing influence from the popular words of the Apostle Paul to the churches in Galatia, one of the greatest truths about the Gospel is that as followers of Jesus, my and your lives are no longer our own. Our lives belong to Him, and this truth continues to find its expression in this world through the way we live.
The journey of worshipping Jesus has not finished when the last chord is strummed nor when the final applause has rung through the church hall on a Sunday morning. Worship spills over and continues into the everyday activities of the believer.
As people who worship a God whose essence is pure holiness, we are called to reflect His holiness through our lives, our relationships, and our service. Endeavouring to live our lives as living sacrifices, pleasing and acceptable before the Lord, is the worship that we offer to God beyond the four walls of our churches.
Sometimes, it is a good idea to do an honest audit of our lives. How do our daily activities bring glory to God? What does your private life tell you about the condition of your heart? How does the way you treat others reflect God’s character? And where do you notice a disconnect where your actions, thoughts, and relationships do not align with the character and heart of Jesus? Take some time to do an audit of your own life. What does it tell you about who (or what) you worship? Does your life outside the four walls of church align with the things you sing on a Sunday? Then, ask the Holy Spirit to help you and guide you to become more like Jesus. The Holy Spirit is the One who abides in us to teach us the ways and wisdom of Jesus. We need to yield to the Holy Spirit on a daily basis. Without the Holy Spirit, our efforts will simply be dead religion. The amazing thing is that the Holy Spirit is patient with us as well. He is gracious and committed to journeying with us all the days of our lives. We simply need to submit our lives to Him in humility, vulnerability, and a heart that wants to be obedient.

ShofarBand is a South African worship and songwriting collective. In January 2024, we released our live album, Welcome Home. This plan is based on those songs, telling the story of a God who is both transcendent and intimate, both high above and near to us. May this plan and these songs enlarge our view of the love and holiness of God, creating space for encounters with His Holy Spirit.
