Tough Questions… Jesus’ AnswersSampel
What Goes Through Your Heart?
I’ve traveled to Israel many times, and the drive from Jerusalem to Jericho is one of the most memorable experiences. At almost 2,500 feet, Jerusalem is situated in the Judean Mountains. Located in the Jordan Valley, Jericho is only fourteen miles east of Jerusalem, yet it’s 900 feet below sea level! Consequently, the elevation drops 3,400 feet between Jerusalem and Jericho.
Jesus sets this as the backdrop in Luke 10:25-37 of The Parable of the Good Samaritan. In this passage, Jesus tells the story of a Samaritan who saw a Jewish man who had been beaten, robbed, and left for dead and was moved with compassion.
Luke 10:34-35 says, “He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’” The Good Samaritan showed mercy when it wasn’t required or even expected.
Friend, the Good Samaritan in this story, who does he represent? His life is a picture of Christ. When we are in desperate need, Jesus meets us. He finds us when sin and Satan have broken, stripped, and left us for dead. We are then healed, bandaged up, and given a future and a hope. The deepest needs of our hearts are met by Him. That’s Jesus!
As you engage with God’s word:
● What is God saying to you?
● What does it mean to you?
● What action step do you need to take?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
