Husband Study Challenge: A Plan for WivesSampel
Do you know what your husband’s needs are? Are you familiar with his physical, emotional, and spiritual needs?
The Bible is full of examples of people living out their faith by means of meeting each other’s needs. We are meant to share with one another and work together as a body to serve God and each other. In Luke 3:10-11 we see that we are supposed to share with one another the tangible things we have. In Deuteronomy 22:4 we see that when someone needs help, we are called to stop and assist them.
The call for us wives when it comes to loving our husbands is even greater and more weighty as wives are called specifically to submit to and respect their husbands (Ephesians 5). This is a role uniquely assigned to wives. And if this sounds tough, you’re right. It is. But in this role, God is calling us into the same kind of mutually edifying unity that Christ experiences with the church.
Scripture tells us that Christ nourishes and cherishes the church, which shows the honor and care he bestows on our specific role as wives. What a profound, encouraging truth! In light of this, how can you also give honor and care to your marriage by showing respect to your husband?
You are uniquely positioned as the one person on earth whose words and actions speak louder to your husband than anyone else’s. How can you show this type of love to your husband if you aren’t aware of his needs? How can you pour into him and call out his best if you're not cognizant of what makes him tick?
One way you can pursue godliness as a wife is to study your husband’s needs.
Study his needs today. Be very observant of him and think as you observe him: what is something he needs? What is one way you can serve him? Is there a tool or item that would make his life better that you could get for him? Is there something you could gift him that would meet a need he has? Or is there something you can take off his plate? A chore you could do that he typically does? Observe him today and find a need, then lovingly meet the need.
Challenge: Observe your husband today to find a need, then lovingly meet the need.
Prayer Challenge: Pray with your husband over his needs. Ask God to move in ways that provide for him. Thank God for the way that he meets both of your needs.
