Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 5Sampel
The nature of the law was clear, black and white, right and wrong, allowed and not allowed. For Peter to see the implications of a new law or a new covenant was not that easy. Peter heard Jesus challenge the old covenant and law in many ways. He heard Jesus introduce a new covenant “in his blood”; he heard Jesus give a new commandment, love one another as I loved you – but the implications did not “hit” him. Would a covenant of love and a commandment of love challenge the deepest old covenant idea that Peter had? Is it possible that God could include all of humanity and not just “his own little nation?” The victory of the cross changed everything – God had a few big surprises up his sleeve.
After Peter had this personal moment with God, his heart and perspective radically changed. He became an agent of transformation as God used this moment to change the direction of his newly established church.
