Introduction

Paul says God’s message is available for all to receive and experience. He says those who don’t see it are lost in the darkness of this world. Yet, God’s light can cast out darkness and shine in our hearts. He compares those with the knowledge of God to clay pots to show that God alone has supreme power.

We who have this spiritual treasure are like common clay pots, in order to show that the supreme power belongs to God, not to us.

Reflect

Paul uses the image of a clay pot to describe Christ’s followers. What does he mean by this comparison? In what ways do you share the knowledge of God’s glory?

Holy One, all the glory and power and honor belong to you. We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed. Thank you for the ways in which you sustain us throughout our days. Amen.

And now, join us in giving thanks to God for the publication of the first Fon Bible. Holy God, today we praise you for the American Bible Society’s partnership with the Bible Society of Benin (West Africa) and the publication of the first Fon Bible. Our hearts rejoice that now, nearly two million Fon language speakers have access to their first Bible and its life-giving message. Amen.
