Darkness to Light: An Easter Story

HARI 7 DARIPADA 7

“…and he died.” In many religions, that is the end of the story. The founder or leader of the religion dies and that is it. Someone else takes over, or the religion dies with its founder. That is not the case with Christianity. What is the end of the story for religion is actually the beginning of the story for Christianity.

The two men on the road to Emmaus had heard the testimony of the women who went to the tomb and saw the angel. They had heard testimony and evidence that Jesus was alive, but they were walking back to Emmaus feeling sad and discouraged.

The problem is not a lack of facts. The problem is faith. The problem is never the evidence; the problem is us believing. We have plenty of facts that speak to the truth and validity of the resurrection of Jesus. There is plenty of evidence that He is alive. There is nothing else that can explain it. There is one answer: He is alive!

After the men had relayed all of the backstory to Jesus, His response was very direct: Oh fools. In the original Greek, it actually reads, Oh foolish. He then took them all the way back to Moses and the prophets and began to expound and explain about Himself.

On every page of the Bible, you will find Jesus. Maybe He started in Genesis 3 and explained the promise of Messiah. Perhaps He then took them through the Exodus and the brass serpent lifted up in the wilderness. Then through the priests and the Levitical system, showing how all the sacrifices pointed to a future perfect sacrifice that would be God Himself dying for us. Over and over through the Scriptures He went, explaining how He Himself had fulfilled every prophecy – and now He was alive. What a walk that must have been!

You and I can have that same walk. When we have a personal relationship with Him, spending time with Him becomes so precious that we do not want it to end. It is made possible by the fact that He died, but He rose. He lives today! What a day to celebrate. Let’s not just celebrate His resurrection on Easter Sunday – let’s keep walking and talking with Him every day.
