Share Christ at WorkSampel
Start with Prayer
The amazing grace we receive because of what Jesus accomplished for us on the cross is a blessing that needs to be shared with others who are hurting and hungry for peace. After all, how will they ever know Jesus if no one tells them about him? The trouble is, sharing your faith may not be something you’re completely comfortable with. For some, the idea of talking about faith even comes with a touch of fear.
The good news is God doesn’t expect us to do anything without His help. He even tells us that apart from Him we can do nothing. But when we abide in Jesus Christ in all that we do he promises that we will bear fruit. Sharing your faith powerfully starts by partnering with God through prayer. Prayer helps you tune into who He wants to reach through you, how to go about it and gives us the courage and wisdom we need to do it well.
Pray for God to send you as His ambassador in the workplace. Ask Him to provide opportunities to share your faith wherever you go. Then focus your effort on building authentic relationships with the people God places in your path. Make a commitment to be more interested in getting to know the other person than you are in sharing about yourself.
Bill Peel, director for the Center for Faith and Work at LeTourneau University, emphasizes the importance of “earning the right to be heard” before you share your faith. Whether you work alongside a person every day, or you sit next to them during a two-hour plane ride, asking questions and listening first will help you understand and identify ways you can serve the other person. With insight into their needs and what is meaningful to them, you will have a better sense of what to say when the opportunity presents itself.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I want to be your ambassador in my workplace. Lord, send me. Show me who you want to speak to through me. Give me the courage to build relationships with those you put in my path at work. Give me wisdom to notice opportunities and the courage to share my faith with my coworkers. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
